Khichadi - North Indian Recipe

Ingredients

Rice                             1 cup
Moong dal                  1/2 cup
Carrot                          1/2 madium sized
Potato                          1 medium sized
Tomato                        1
Green beans              4-5
Ghee                           1 tblsp
Cloves                        4
Cinnamon                 1 inch stick
Cumin seeds            1 tsp
Turmeric powder      1/2 tsp
 Red chilli powder    1/2 tsp
Salt                              to taste
Curry leaves             a few

Method

Wash rice and moong dal together in enough water for 1 hour. Drain off the water and keep aside.
Chop the carrot, potato and the beans into 1/2 inch pieces.
Chop the tomatoes finely.
Heat ghee in a large pan. Add the cloves, cinnamon and the cumin seeds and fry.Add the currry leaves and fry.
Add the rice, dal, potato, carrot, beans, tomatoes and mix well.
Add the turmeric powder, salt to taste, and red chilli powder.
Pour 4 cups of water, mix well, cover and cook on medium heat till done.
Serve hot.
