Column

Column or pillar in architecture and structural engineering is a structural element that transmits, through compression, the weight of the structure above to other structural elements below. In other words, a column is a compression member. The term column applies especially to a large round support (the shaft of the column) with a capital and a base or pedestal and made of stone, or appearing to be so. A small wooden or metal support is typically called a post, and supports with a rectangular or other non-round section are usually called piers. For the purpose of wind or earthquake engineering, columns may be designed to resist lateral forces. Other compression members are often termed "columns" because of the similar stress conditions. Columns are frequently used to support beams or arches on which the upper parts of walls or ceilings rest. In architecture, "column" refers to such a structural element that also has certain proportional and decorative features. A column might also be a decorative element not needed for structural purposes; many columns are "engaged", that is to say form part of a wall.

Carrowkeel Megalithic Cemetery - Sligo,Ireland

Carrowkeel is a Neolithic passage tomb cemetery in the south of County Sligo, near Boyle, County Roscommon. An Cheathrú Chaol in Irish means 'the Narrow Quarter'. Circumstantial Carbon 14 dating places the tombs at between 5400 and 5100 years old (3400 to 3100 BC), so that they predate the Pyramids on Egypt's Giza plateau by 500–800 years. Carrowkeel is one of the "big four" passage tomb cemeteries in Ireland (the other three are Brú na Bóinne, Lough Crew, and Carrowmore). Carrowkeel is set on high ground above Lough Arrow, and the tombs seem to be oriented towards the area of Cuil Irra, Knocknarea and Carrowmore. There are fourteen passage tombs in Carrowkeel. Some can be entered by crawling through a narrow passage. Twelve more passage tombs are located close by, most of which form part of the Keshcorran complex. A particular type of crude pottery found in passage tombs has been titled Carrowkeel Ware, having first been recorded in the Carrowkeel Monuments

mere jazbaat ko kaahe footpath pe
bhari dopehari paidal chalaaye
ghoore dheere se kyun
teri deewani ko agarbatti ke maafik jalaaye
mujhe chhu le zara, jee le zaraa
baahon mein kas ke, dabaa ke
main kasam dun tumhe rakhungi kya
joban ka beema karaake
lattu hai.. mujhpe ye saare
sau sau ke.. note kharche hain

meri dhadkan ki galiyon mein
lekin tere hi charche hain
mera naam mary hai
mary sau takka teri hai

la la la..
mera naam mary hai
mary sau takka teri hai
phir kis baat ki deri hai
mary sau takka teri hai

haaye badi garmi hai re
teri har baat mein
aaja saanson ka ac chala dun
hogi pardes ki pehalwani teri
aaja do ghoont desi pilaa doon
teri aankhein hai ya chumbak piya
mujhko teri ore kheenche
kabhi galti se tu seeti bajaa
meri bhi khidki ke neeche
auron mein.. kya buraari hai
ye bhi to.. achhe ghar se hai

meri dhadkan ki galiyon mein
lekin tere hi charche hain
mera naam mary hai
mary sau takka teri hai

ye ye ye..
mera naam mary hai
mary sau takka teri hai
phir kis baat ki deri hai
mary sau takka teri hai

Chimney - Smokestacks

A chimney is a structure which provides ventilation for hot flue gases or smoke from a boiler, stove, furnace or fireplace to the outside atmosphere. Chimneys are typically vertical, or as near as possible to vertical, to ensure that the gases flow smoothly, drawing air into the combustion in what is known as the stack, or chimney, effect. The space inside a chimney is called a flue. Chimneys may be found in buildings, steam locomotives and ships. In the United States, the term smokestack (colloquially, stack) is also used when referring to locomotive chimneys or ship chimneys, and the term funnel can also be used.

The height of a chimney influences its ability to transfer flue gases to the external environment via stack effect. Additionally, the dispersion of pollutants at higher altitudes can reduce their impact on the immediate surroundings. In the case of chemically aggressive output, a sufficiently tall chimney can allow for partial or complete self-neutralization of airborne chemicals before they reach ground level. The dispersion of pollutants over a greater area can reduce their concentrations and facilitate compliance with regulatory limits.

Croke Park - Dublin, Ireland.

Croke Park (Irish: Páirc an Chrócaigh, IPA: [ˈpaːɾʲc ən̪ˠ ˈxɾˠoːkˠə]) is a GAA stadium located in Dublin, Ireland. Named in honour of Archbishop Thomas Croke it is often called Croker by some GAA followers in Dublin, it serves both as the principal stadium and headquarters of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA).

Since 1884 the site has been used primarily by the GAA to host Gaelic games, most notably the annual All-Ireland finals in football and hurling. Both the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2003 Special Olympics, as well as numerous music concerts by major international acts, have been held in the stadium. During the construction of the Aviva Stadium, Croke Park hosted games played by the Ireland national rugby union team team and the Republic of Ireland national football team. In June 2012, the stadium was used to host the closing ceremony of the 50th International Eucharistic Congress during which Pope Benedict XVI gave an address over video link to approximately eighty thousand people.

Following a redevelopment programme started in the 1990s, Croke Park has a capacity of 82,300,making it the third largest stadium in Europe, and the largest not usually used for association football.
