The form of Shiva's consort Parvati worshipped at this temple is called Karpagambal (Tamil):கற்பகாம்பாள்) is from Tamil, ("Goddess of the Wish-Yielding Tree"). The temple was built around the 7th century CE in Dravidian architecture.
