• Origin: Founded in 1893 as the Columbian Museum of Chicago to house items from the World's Columbian Exposition. 

• Name Origin: Renamed in 1905 to honor Marshall Field, a major benefactor. 

• Sue the T. rex: The star attraction is a 12.3-meter-long, 67-million-year-old T. rex skeleton, uncovered in 1990 and unveiled at the museum on May 17, 2000.
