Amrita was born to a Sikh family. She is the daughter of Rukhsana Sultana, who was a political activist and Shavinder Singh, who was an army officer.She is the granddaughter of The Hon Bahadur Sir Sobha Singh, OBE, of Hadali, Sargodha.
